Account and data deletion

Deleting your account from the app

1. Open the AroundYou app and sign in to the account you want to delete.
2. Go to the Profile tab.
3. Open Settings through the gear icon at the top of the screen.
4. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
5. Confirm in the dialog. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Your account and the data listed below are removed as soon as you confirm. The path is the same on iPhone and on Android.

Deleting only part of your data

You do not have to delete your account to erase what you have shared. Inside the app, at any time, you can:

• Posts: open the three-dot menu on your post and choose Delete Post.
• Comments: open the three-dot menu on your comment and choose Delete Comment.
• Messages: open the options on a message you sent, in the conversation, and delete it.
• Notifications: remove them from your notification list.
• Profile picture: go to Profile → Edit profile and remove the photo.
• Profile details: your name, username and biography can be changed at any time under Edit profile.

Each item is removed from our servers as soon as you confirm, and your account stays active. You can also request the deletion of specific data by email, at the address below.

Requesting deletion without access to the app

If you have already uninstalled the app or can no longer sign in to your account, send an email to aroundyou.connect@gmail.com with the subject “Account deletion — AroundYou”, including the registered email address or username. We verify account ownership and complete the deletion within 30 days of receiving the request.

Data that is deleted

When you delete your account, we permanently erase from our servers:

• registration and authentication data: email address, account identifier and the link to your Google sign-in;
• profile data: name, username and profile picture;
• the posts you created and the records of who viewed them;
• the comments you wrote;
• the private conversations you took part in and every message within them;
• the notifications you sent and received;
• your post subscriptions and follows;
• the location history linked to your account;
• the blocks you applied and the blocks applied to you;
• the reports you filed and the reports filed about you;
• your device’s push notification token.

Data that is retained, and for how long

• Moderation and ban records — where they exist, they are retained indefinitely, to prevent accounts suspended for violating the Terms of Use from coming back and to protect other users. They hold only the internal account identifier, with no profile data.
• Images uploaded to our storage service — the photos you posted remain stored, detached from your profile, after the account is deleted, with no authorship attached and no longer displayed in the app.
• Error reports submitted voluntarily — retained detached from your profile, solely to fix defects in the app.

None of your data is sold or transferred to third parties for advertising purposes.
